Popular Family Board Games You’ll Love

With lots of families spending  more time inside, we know you may be on the hunt for more board games…

A recent Family Games Night report by trend forecasting authority WGSN presented the most popular games categories among families this year. We found the report really interesting – particularly as it features Ridley’s Games’ Drawsome People, a game that was thought up and developed in-house!

If you’re looking for inspiration for new and exciting games but you don’t quite know where to start, we’ve compiled a list of some of the most popular kinds of games among families, as highlighted in WGSN.

To make your search for great games even easier, we’ve suggested a Ridley’s game per category…

 “Express Yourself ”

Get a game that will showcase your creative side! You don’t have to be particularly good at drawing, performing or the arts – the most important thing is that you’re expressing yourself.

WGSN said: “Games involving drawing, performing or creating encourage families to express themselves, and appeal to a wide range of ages.”

We suggest Ridley’s Games’ Drawsome People, a hilarious game of side-splitting scribbles which includes challenges to draw celebrities, characters and fellow players (as vegetables…)! The person with the most points at the end of five rounds wins...

  • 3-10 players
  • Ages 11+
  • Average gameplay 30 minutes
  • Featured in the WGSN trend report!

“Approachable Horror and Sci-Fi”

Why not get the whole family involved in a fun sci-fi scenario? There’s nothing like an approachable, story-filled game to get the whole family engaged!

WGSN said: “The classic gaming genres of horror and sci-fi are given a family-friendly twist, making them accessible for the younger members of the family.”

We suggest Ridley’s Games’ Selfish:The Space Edition, a strategic card game where only one astronaut can get home on the remaining oxygen supplies and you must battle against wormholes, asteroid fields, laser blasts and most dangerous of all, each other, to win.

  • 2-5 astronauts
  • Ages 7+
  • Average gameplay 20 minutes

“Interiors inspired”

Get a game that matches the house! Find the game that suits your style, and appreciate how it looks on your coffee table, both during and at the end of gameplay.

WGSN said: “Gaming sets take inspiration from interior design for pieces that blend into the home and complement the consumer's personal style.”

We suggest Ridley’s Games Room Classic Quiz Compendium, a stylish geometric box which contains all the classic quizzes a family could possibly need. Get your thinking caps on for General Knowledge, test your cinematic knowledge with Movie Buff, battle through mental acrobatics with Brain Teasers, and recall the glory days of classic tunes with Pop Music...

Look out for new Games Room releases in Autumn/Winter 2020, with new, refreshed geometric packaging for even more style in the home!

“Respecting Nature”

Encourage the whole family to love nature by playing a game where the natural world is at the centre of the game.

WGSN said: “Brands make eco-friendly behaviour and learning about the natural world fun and approachable through engaging games.”

We suggest Ridley’s Games’ House of Plants, due for release in Autumn/Winter 2020! Convert your living room into an oasis of exotic plants with this fun, on-trend card game about growing the best of house plants. Keep them healthy and alive to win!
